RASL Day Program

 

Rising Above, Slave Lake takes a holistic approach to recovery not by addressing the addiction itself, but by addressing the pain that fuels the addiction. Destructive behaviors always stem from pain and trauma, and it is the pain and trauma that these behaviors, such as addictions, are attempting to mask.

Rising Above focuses on that pain in the clients we serve so that they can experience true and lasting freedom.

Rising Above is an abstinence-based treatment program in Slave Lake, Alberta, offering a Christian-based 6-month day program to individuals trapped in a Cycle of Defeat. At Rising Above, you don't have to be a Christian to attend. In fact, most people who enroll in the program have little to no faith background at all! In recovery, the term "higher power" is widely used and refers to something bigger than yourself. Rising Above's Higher Power is God, Creator God, Jesus Christ. Throughout our literature and teaching materials, we present Christ-centered teachings. 

This program helps to address a wide range of issues. Substance abuse is the most common, but the program also addresses anger issues, patterns of homelessness and criminal behavior, deep-rooted shame, anxiety, and any other forms of bondage a person may be struggling in. 

Throughout the 6-month program, individuals will have the opportunity to build coping skills, strengthen resiliency, gain knowledge and practical tools in the Life-Skills classes, and have a safe space to work on deep rooted issues which are always based in pain and trauma.

If you want to participate in our program, you will be expected to refrain from all use of drugs and alcohol, and follow all program rules. To be eligible for this support, you must also partake in Rising Above's mandatory employment readiness training, life-skill classes and inner healing. You will also be asked not to work more than 25 hours a week, as it will require approximately 15 hours each week to complete the program requirements.

The foundation of the 6-Month day program is based on the H.E.L.P.S model.

EMPLOYMENT

Our goal is to provide our participants with the needed skills to obtain employment when they leave or graduate the program.

Participants are required to complete Employment Readiness Training at one of our partnership businesses. This teaches the value of servant leadership, helps to see life from a different perspective, develops self-esteem and contributes back to society.

LIFE-SKILLS CLASS

Participants spend 9 hours a week learning various skills and coping strategies in our Life-Skills classes. Classes are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Below are some of the topics we teach on:

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

This is one of the major areas of growth within the 6-month program. This is where our Inner Healing model comes into play. Inner Healing is a unique process that quickly uncovers the root issues that addictions or other destructive behaviors are attempting to mask. The healing comes when God’s truth replaces the lie that has been believed. Jesus said "you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”. Jesus wants you to experience the truth in your heart, not simply know it in your head. That's what it means to know the truth. Participants are expected to have 1 Inner Healing appointment per week with their assigned Inner Healing Facilitator. 

SPIRITUAL FORMATION

In keeping with the “12-step” recovery philosophy, we believe in the significance of spiritual awareness and the need for a power greater than ourselves to enable us to become healthy and self-sufficient. At Rising Above, our Higher Power is God, Creator God, Jesus Christ. There are many opportunities to explore one's faith while at Rising Above. This could be bible studies, church, a spiritual mentor, or exploring this topic with a staff member.
